And how many days to maintain weight loss?" - nadh72, IG Truthfully, I don't believe there is one magic formula that works for everyone. Why? Our lives, bodies, metabolism, calorie intake, etc. are all so different! That said, I believe you should get moving every single day. The problem I have with exercise plans that have you working hard 6 days a week is that by day 7 you just want to stay on the couch all day eating chips! Here on JESSICASMITHTV our workout rotations vary in both length and intensity, giving you the option to take a rest day away from exercise any time you choose, but you may not need it as I typically rotate between low and high intensity workout days so that you are always alternating between an active recovery and a more intense workout. And, if there is a day when you feel completely drained of energy, your body may just need to rest. Instead of trying to adhere to a very strict schedule with your workouts, be sure to first check in with your body's needs. If a rest day is what's needed, take it. When it comes to working out for weight loss, I find less can be more since what you eat plays a huge part in weight loss success. Personally, if I work out too much I find that my appetite increases and I end up eating more, which quickly negates my calorie burn! It may sound like vague advice, but it's important to get to know your body and what works for you. Some women do well with more high intensity work - there's even evidence that our genes may predispose us to respond to certain types of training better than others (ie some bodies respond better to high twitch muscle fiber work like sprinting, others do better with walking, long distance types of exercise). Others may do well with heavy weight training, while some respond better to bodyweight work, light weights and yoga. My best recommendation when it comes to the exercise and weight loss connection is to observe what makes your body feel the most energetic and inspires you to eat healthfully and stay active throughout your day. That's when you have found your own personal sweet spot! Your eating habits and daily activity level play an important role in weight loss, but exercise is what shapes and defines your body. It's also important to remember that your "weight" may not be the best goal to strive for. I've seen clients drop sizes while actually GAINING a few pounds as their body composition changed and they added more lean muscle mass while reducing their overall body fat. The number on the scale can't reveal everything about your body so avoid placing too much emphasis on it.
