Reopening Webinar - December 2

Reopening Webinar - December 2
Posted on 11/30/2020

Good Morning UPA Community,

Welcome back from the Thanksgiving holiday.  I hope you found some time to get rested and refreshed because December will be a very busy month for us at UPA.

Before the holiday break, Santa Clara County saw its county risk level dramatically increased to purple or "Widespread." In addition to the increased risk level, we are held to a curfew.   The change in risk level has not impacted our Horton Connect program, our continued planning for opening on January 11, or our staff's dedication to making distance learning as impactful as possible.   You can follow the county risk level for schools or other facets of our community by going to https://covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/ to get updated information on our status level and how that impacts our daily lives.

Part of our preparation for reopening is to provide two community meetings to review our guidelines, practices, and policies to ensure our staff, students, and you.   I invite you to attend one of our meetings on either December 2 at 6:30 PM (Zoom link attached below) or on December 16 at 6:30 PM (Zoom link to be shared shortly).  During these meetings, you will hear from the entire admin team on our preparations and what we are asking from our students and families.

An essential question at the moment is how does the current risk level impact our plans to reopen.   While we are fully prepared to reopen, county guidelines require the county risk level to be in the red or "Substantial" tier for 14 consecutive days.   The UPA Board will be holding a special board meeting on December 21 at 6:00 PM to review the current county data.

December 27 is a significant date.   If the county is still in the purple or "Widespread" tier, we will not have been in the red or "Substantial" phase for enough time to open on January 11.  If the county is in the red tier and remains on the red tier between December 27 and remains in the red tier, we are cleared to open on January 11.

I hope you can join us for our community meetings on December 2nd or 16th and attend our next board meeting on December 21.   Your thoughts, concerns, and solutions have been invaluable, and I look forward to meeting with you again.

You are invited to a Zoom webinar.
