Essay Contest Sponsored by UPA PTSO

The UPA PTSO is again sponsoring an Essay Contest due to the overwhelming success of our first contest last year!  In preparation for each student's college application process, the PTSO is encouraging students to use their personal experiences as topics for this competition. This year the competition is a little different. We have 3 essay categories based on grades:
Grades 7 & 8: Write about the proudest moment in your life.
Grades 9 & 10: Write about a difficult choice you made and how it affected you.
Grades 11 & 12: Where do you see yourself in 2-3 years, and what are you doing today to get there?
First prize winners in each category receive $300. 2nd prize winners in each category receive $200. That's $1,500 in prizes!

Essay are to be 500 words or less and the contest deadline is Monday, Sept. 25 by 5pm. Good luck students!

Jog-A-Thon is Friday, October 6

Planning meeting:  Monday, Sept. 18th 4:00-4:30 (please meet at BBQ near the Amphitheater).  Parents and students are welcome.  We need many volunteers to make the event successful.

Shirt Sponsorships:  Have you always dreamed of being famous?  Want a souvenir of your time at UPA?  Have your name or your family name emblazoned on the back of the Jog-A-Thon t-shirt.   For a $100 donation to Sports Boosters, we will put your name on the back of the shirt.  Likewise, if you own a company, or work at one that might want to sponsor our Sports Boosters, for a $250 donation, we will put the company logo on the shirt.  Since shirts can be worn to school, this is great advertising.  Donation form is attached, or available at the UPA Office.

Jog-a-thon Details:   Donation envelopes will be coming out this week in Advisory.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity to have fun with friends while supporting the sports program.  Collect some sponsors, then come out and run and enjoy a fun afternoon.  You must have $20 in the envelope to qualify for a T-Shirt.  By popular demand, we will have booths again this year.  Tickets for the booths will be $1.00 and sold at the Jog-A-Thon.  There will also be a movie immediately after the Jog-A-Thon, starting at 5pm.  Parents are welcome to come and volunteer or watch.

Thanks for supporting the PTSO Kick-off BBQ!

A big THANK YOU to all volunteers and parents who helped out and donated at the BBQ!
Wow, what a great event!  I hope you all enjoyed meeting your students friends, teachers and learning about our clubs.  Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way. This event could not have been a success without your help. Special thanks to Shon Carlton Allen and Mark Nijemier, parents of 9th graders who spent all day preparing  and smoking the food for the BBQ.  Also, special thanks to the students who represented their clubs and the ASB. Parents, now that you have seen first hand the enthusiastic set of kids involved in the clubs, please encourage your kids to participate. We hope to see you at future PTSO events and hope you will remain involved and engaged with UPA PTSO.
Lastly, for those of you who signed up to support the event with donations and have not yet made them, please either use Paypal or bring a check into the school office.   Thank you :-)

PTSO Class Giving Contest now underway!

Your student should have received a flyer for the PTSO Class Giving Contest and given it to you. Each child in the English class with the most parent support for the PTSO can choose from a variety of prizes that include free Halloween dance tickets, $10 Starbucks gift card, $10 Yogurtland gift card, $10 Jamba Juice gift card or a $10 Subway gift card.  Additionally the class winning teacher will receive $200!  This is our main fundraiser for the year. We do not sell magazines or cookie dough, instead request donations straight to the PTSO.  These donations are used to fund the kick-off BBQ, teacher appreciation events, scholarships, clubs and field trips to name a few.

If you have already donated, thank you. But please still complete the form, check with your employer for matching, sign up for eScrip and use Amazon Smile.  For the PTSO to receive eScrip donations, parents' must sign up annually. Use Amazon Smile with UPA PTSO designated  as the beneficiary and save that link in your browser so you automatically use it each time you shop!   eScrip and Amazon Smile are the easiest ways to help out the PTSO.   These small amounts really add up and allow us to help out the school and your children.  Thanks in advance for your support.

In case your child did not bring home their Class Giving Contest forms, attached is a copy for your convenience.
